ESPN News broke the story at 8pm est.tonight.

TSN also reported that a refinancing plan fell through, with a minority owner selling shares, that would've brought in some much needed cash and that the players should be paid within 2 weeks.

First Buffalo and now Ottawa. Who's next?

Can you say 2004 lockout!

All NHL paychecks are GUARANTEED!!!
ESPN is wrong in posting that.
But it still may be something to consider. How will the players react?

I updated my last post after your initial response but what good is a guarantee? Who's holding money beyond a couple of paychecks? This isn't the NBA & NFL with sweet TV contracts that inject millions.

The story is also at Yahoo.com in the Sports news section.

All NHLl player paychecks are guranateed through the NHLPA. This (Union) has more $ than many pro sports could even dream of!
Regardless, how would a pro player feel knowing he is being paid by his union and not by his employer!

...doubt it will affect them, theyve been distracted by this for a bit. most are pretty well off and team DOES have character. recall the WFL team playing for NO checks winning the wfl championship game, think it was jack pardee coaching. now HE was a motivator.

The NHLPA has more money than most sports can only dream of? You got to be kidding me right?

How can they compare to MLBPA and a union can't carry a teams payroll on what , dues?

Allan E. was the only one to profit from the NHLPA.

Just like any large corporation, a pro team can stiff players in the end if the money runs out. The league is already in a pinch over the Buffalo debacle with Adelphi ownership.

Bobby is right that the effect will be minimal but with such a price tomorrow it's something to think about.

Sorry it wasn't more clear. The NHLPA has more money than most sports Unions can only dream of. Better?
How can they compare to MLBPA?
Look at NHL salaries compared to MLB. Then look at team rosters. How many MLB players are allowed vs. NHL?

You say Allan E. was the only one to profit from the NHLPA? Why do you think any ex-pro player (or current for that matter) would give they're left nut to meet him in an alley. FYI - He affected much more than the NHL. Why do you think all the changes were made? Why do you think he is no longer associated with hockey - amateur or pro?
And as far as your comment that just like any large corporation a pro team can stiff players in the end if the money runs out, you couldn't be further from the truth.
Good night and good luck.

I'm playing Atlanta, almost 3x is worth the shot!! Although some do not put this to use since they have not met this year, but Atlanta is also 4-1 against the Sens in the last 5 meetings.

May not come in, but its the only side in this game. Laying too much with the Sens.

GL & Happy New Year!! I better see you near the top Rattler!! /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (even if I'm not there!!)

I doubt you'll see me at the top Scooby. I've had a great run going in NHL that lasted all of three weeks! I just can't seem to get a grasp on it this year. Great to see you guys doing so well. Good luck with Atlanta. At 3x!!! /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

think asking atlanta to win three consecutive road games (something they have NEVER-EVER done in their brief history) is bit much - however the over might be one of best totals of day...

True Bobby, but its the NHL...Florida should have lost yesterday?? /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I would look at it different if they did not have that loss at home in between, but your right about not winning 3 in a row on the road.

They may lose, but in my mind its worth the risk. They have played better the last few games, and maybe...just maybe the Sens might not be up for this game. Thrashers may still be high after beating a team they have never won against in the Penguins.

Now I know you would never play on Ottawa tonight....so root for the Thrashers for me /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
